Should You Start Carb Counting Like Everyone Else?
- In today's dieting world, carb counting is all the rage.
- And why not? Everywhere you look, poeple are having great success with it.
- And people who are carb counting seem to be losing weight fairly quickly.
Some tremendously beneficial carb counting tips
If you've got the willpower to do it, you can be successful with cutting carbs to lose weight. To make it easier, here are a few easy and convenient carb counting tips:
- Keep sugar-free snacks around like sugar-free gelatin
- Use lettuce leaves instead of bread when making a sandwich, or instead of using two pieces of bread, use one.
- Keep plenty of pre-cut fresh veggies handy, such as broccoli, cauliflower, cucumbers or cherry tomatoes. A half cup serving of any or all of these is less than three grams of carbs.
- Dry roasted peanuts make a great low-carb snack
- A 1-oz. serving of cheese is 1 carb gram
- Measure your portions. (This is good advice for any diet plan.)
- Use crushed nuts or Parmesan cheese for breading in place of flour or breadcrumbs for meat
- Instead of mashed potatoes, try mashed cauliflower.
- Learn how to make omelettes or quiche.
- That is one long carb counting list! Boo yah!
Some additional carb counting information
Most people need anywhere from 130 grams of carbs a day. But a low carb diet takes you down to 20 grams of carbs at the beginning to start the fat burning process (also known as ketosis). However, that can cause headaches, tiredness and irritability. In that case, increase your carb intake. Sometimes people who experience these side effects can increase their carb intake from 20 grams to 60 grams and still experience weight loss. Carb counting is not something you should treat as a fad or a quick fix. It's a lifestyle. If you lose the weight you want to lose then go back to your old habits, you run the risk of gaining your weight back.

- But it's still not for everyone. If you want to give carb counting a try, ease into it slowly.
