	<title>Carb</title>
	<description>
A recent study that was preformed by both the Instituto de Salud in Cuernavaca, Mexico and Harvard School of Public Health in Boston showed that women who get 57% or more of their total energy intake from carbohydrates have a rick of breast cancer that is 2.2 times higher than those women who take in less carbs. This is more good news for all of you carb-counters out there. As the carb craze continues there are more and more studies being conducted that are shedding more light on the benefits of being more carb-conscious. As breast cancer is one of the biggest killers of women, this is certainly something to pay attention to.

Carb-consciousness is catching on
It seems that because a carb elevates the level of insulin in the blood, it may also in turn increase the risk of breast cancer. Ninety percent of breast tumors are insulin-receptor positive and over express the insulin- like growth factor. When you eat sweets and starches that turn into sugars you cause a rapid rise in the level of the body's blood sugar which causes the body to produce more insulin and this can cause cancer causing cells to grow more rapidly. Insulin and insulin-like growth factor may also contribute to higher levels of biologically active estrogens which is a risk factor for breast cancer in pre-menopausal women.

There is a lot more detailed information out there regarding this and similar studies that show that there may be more to a carb-conscious diet than was previously thought. All of this information is aimed at keeping people healthier through diet. But, it is also helping to get tot he bottom of the causes for some of the most prevalent diseases facing us today that many experts attribute to diet but have yet to get definitive answers for.
