Low Carb

Low carb diets and foods may not be the best option. There are several reasons why a low carb diet could be bad for your health.

The Low Carb Crusade Is Raging On

The human body needs certain types of fuel for it to run and function properly. Unfortunately the latest dieting trend, the low carb diet might not provide the fuel that your body was made to run on. If you maintain a low carb diet over a long period of time a few health problems could develop. Many experts have concluded that there are seven health concerns that are most likely to occur, we will highlight a few of those.

Poor intestinal health is an unintended low carb byproduct

In order to ensure good intestinal health our bodies require at least 30 grams of fiber each day. There are two different kinds of fiber, soluble and insoluble. Insoluble finer is essential for both the formation of stool and promotes timely waste elimination. A low carb diet is often times too low in insoluble fiber and constipation is common. When waste remains in the body for longer than it should it increases the chances of developing colon cancer.

Insoluble fiber also inhibits the formation of mucus building up on the intestinal walls which can lead to poor absorption of nutrients into the body. What lowers the risk of intestinal problems and disease are whole grains, beans, fruits and vegetables which are all high in both soluble and insoluble fibers. So think about that before you hop on any low carb train.

Muscle loss and reduced metabolism are some other nice low carb side effects

Another common malady connected to a low carb diet is the loss of lean muscle tissue.

Low carb diets are mainly concerned with weight loss, but when you restrict calories below that which the body requires over a long period of time the result will be the loss of lean muscle tissue and a slowing of your metabolism. You will be losing fat, but this will come at a cost of also losing muscle tissue, which in turn reduces your resting metabolic rate. This is the number one reason why after the diet is over more weight will often times be gained back.
