<description>When you're on a low carb diet, you have to plan, plan, plan. And that can take a lot of time. It also takes time to actually prepare your meals. So when it's morning and you're running late, what do you do? Drive-thrus are pretty much off limits, because anything you can eat with one hand while driving with the other is probably going to involve bread or a tortilla, at minimum. What you need to do is check out the selection of low carb shakes at your gym, grocery store or health food store.

What to Expect from Low Carb Shakes
A wise person knows that cutting milk out of your diet isn't always the smartest thing to do. But on a low carb diet, many people do just that. That's why most low carb shakes are made with water. So when you get a low carb shake, don't expect it to be some thick, frothy thing. In fact, don't even expect it to be as thick as flavored milk. And don't even expect it to be cold, unless you refrigerate it or buy it cold.

When searching online for reviews of low carb shakes, we found a few that were rated favorably:

Slim Fast's Low Carb Creamy Chocolate Shake
Myoplex's low carb shakes
Atkins Ready-to-Drink shakes

Another option is to make your own ahead of time. Here's a recipe for a strawberry low carb shake:

2 cups no-sugar-added strawberry frozen yogurt
1 cup low-carb milk (such as Carb Countdown)
1-2 Tablespoons no sugar added strawberry all-fruit spread

1. Mix all ingredients together in a blender until desired consistency is met.

You can also buy protein powder and make shakes that way. Designer Whey is a good one, and it's not as expensive as some others. If you are using milk, or low carb milk, you can make tasty low carb shakes because Designer Whey comes in chocolate, chocolate peanut caramel, strawberry, French vanilla, tropical punch, natural and vanilla praline.
