Low Carbohydrate Diet
A low carbohydrate diet and good carbs
If you are on a diet that limits your intake of carbs, then you already know that your body does still need some carbs. The problem sometimes will be to figure out which foods are the best for your low carbohydrate diet success. The goal with a low carbohydrate diet is obviously to lose weight, but you do not want to sacrifice your health in order to shed a few pounds, it's just not worth it. Instead you need to take in the most beneficial foods that give you what your body needs and not what it doesn't. The most important aspect of a low carbohydrate diet is actually the limitation of bad carbs. Your body does still need carbs though and following is a list of the most beneficial good carbs.
Good carbs that you can indulge in
- Fruits and vegetables. These are packed with a lot of nutrients and so are a great addition to low carbohydrate diet . Studies have shown that people that eat at least 5 servings each day of fruits and vegetables have a lower risk of getting heart disease and even some cancers.
- Whole Grains. This is a huge group, but basically includes pasta, rice, and noodles and is the body's main source of energy. But for optimum health choose those that are made from unrefined whole grains. Unrefined carbs, because they contain whole grains, are higher in fiber and keep you feeling fuller for a longer period of time, which is perfect if you are dieting. Sometimes the hardest part of a diet is trying to feel full with all the limitations that go along with any diet.
- Potatoes. New white potatoes are your best bet here. You can get them fresh or canned. Sweet potatoes are another good option. Potatoes are fat-free and have good amounts of vitamin C, potassium, and fiber.
So, going on a low carbohydrate diet does not mean that all carbs should be cut from your diet, but it does mean that you should probably be a bit more choosy when it comes to eating them, because not all carbs are created equal.
